Updates on Daniel January 6, 2007 Dear friends and family, I flew home last night since there was nothing more I could do legally for the Barkdoll’s and I missed my family tremendously. Yesterday was a day of frustrations. I called the lawyer yesterday morning to hear whether or not the Barkdoll’s would get Daniel officially. She hadn’t heard anything. So Sara Barkdoll and I went to the US embassy to see what we could do to expedite the process there. They are open for 3 hours during the week day to handle questions/problems in person. There was a family in front of us that took 45 minutes of that time. When you enter the US embassy you are not allowed to have cellular phones. IHNFA called during this time to say we had an immediate appointment because we couldn’t receive the call we missed the appointment and they would not give us another one til Monday. The consul was very helpful so we are so grateful for our meeting with him. When we left the embassy the lawyer called so we went directly to her office. She informed us that the Vital Statistics in Tegucigalpa could not give the Barkdoll’s a new birth certificate for Daniel because his name is handwritten in a book in San Pedro so Dan has to personally come here so they can erase Daniel’s name and write his new name in its place. What does all this mean? Dan and the majority of the kids have to return to the states leaving Daniel and 3 of their kids(Bethany or Abigail, Jeremiah(2), and Daniel). Daniel had a full day of exams scheduled for the 16th which will now have to be canceled. We can not have a meeting with the embassy until we have the new birth certificate and the adoption inscribed at the same place. On Monday both Dan and Sara have to be present to sign the documents of IHFNA formally giving them Daniel and then go to where they take care of the orphans. There they will have a doctor exam Daniel and the foster mother will formally present Daniel to his new parents. This means that we can not have our appointment with the embassy on Monday. The adoption department only sees people on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On Monday, we were hoping to get his new birth certicate but can not until Dan can arrive from Teguc. From the appointment there. This means that the process will not be finished before the Barkdoll’s fly back as well as the clinic will not be able to open for another week. On a side note, Cassandra was with us as a translator. She was able to get to know the family who took care of her the first 15 months of her life. I think Cassandra felt that Dona Gloria was the one that abandoned her because she would not look at or have anything to do with her until the end when she warmed up. She did remember one of the daughters and had a great time with all of the daughters. We had really been praying whether or not to let Dona Gloria meet Cassandra again. The situation turned out perfectly though. With the Barkdoll’s 5 kids, Dona Gloria’s 6 daughter’s, and 4 foster kids Dona Gloria was able to observe Cassandra and get to know her personality. At the end Cassandra gave her a big hug and kiss. Praises: 1. Oneida signed the paperwork 2. The Public Writing is officially done 3. Therefore under Honduran law Daniel is legally a Barkdoll 4. Daniel responded wonderfully to his new family 5. He understands that they are saving his life and his family/plus Dona Gloria are giving him up so that he can live. 6. Cassandra did great meeting her foster family again. Prayer request: 1. We need a contact on Monday that will get us into see the director of Vital Statistics(Registro Nacional). 2. This director needs to inscribe Daniel’s adoption and give him a new birth certificate with his new name on the same day. 3. We need Dan to be able to get to San Pedro immediately so this can occur(4 hour trip by bus) after his appointment with IHNFA 4. We need to get the passport on the same day 5. The embassy will expediate the process realizing his life is in danger. 6. That I will have clear thinking on how to handle all the issues that come up. 7. Barkdoll’s that they would not be discouraged since it is so important that we get this done immediately. This is just a brief summary of everything that is going on. The Barkdoll’s now understand what it means when I say your prayers are so very important. Throughout this entire week I told them your job is to pray me through this specific situation to make it work out. So please pray that this process will end quickly. Your prayers will make a difference on how quickly this process ends. The Barkdoll's will officially receive Daniel tomorrow at 8 a.m. I have a contact to get me in at Vital Statistics tomorrow at 8 a.m. Toby just went to get the documents so I can present them. Please pray both go well. I forgot to mention we have no vehicle right now so we are renting. The blue SUV can not handle the mountain roads anymore so we are leaving it in the city so it won't break down again. We have a possible buyer for it that is getting together the money. Please pray he gets it together this week so we can take that money to buy the new vehicle. Toby needs wisdom on which one to buy. The man who was suppose to buy parts for the white vehicle 2 to 3 months ago still has not gotten the parts. Please pray that he would sense an urgency to get the parts and get the white SUV fixed. He is our only contact right now to get parts in Guatemala. We have a probably buyer for the white one which we will also use to pay for the new vehicle once the white vehicle is fixed. I will be seeing the Barkdoll's on Wednesday. I will try to download all of their pictures and send them to our wonderful web master Paul Redwine so he can put them on our web page so you can see all that has transpired. I will try to let you know tomorrow night how everything went. God bless, Amy Hill ----------------------------------------------------------------- January 7, 2007 Dear friends and family, I greatly appreciate your prayers. It was evident you all were praying. I had no problems at the Registry(Vital Statistics). I just had to wait for the lawyer to show up to work(2 hours late:)) She insisted that she keep one document that I was suppose to get back so please pray that Ruby will be able to get another copy of the Public Writing Authenticated today/tomorrow. Other than that it went quite well getting his new birth certificate and inscription of his adoption. Those documents are are the way back so the Barkdolls can get Daniels passport tomorrow. On the other hand, the Barkdolls and the foster family misunderstood that they had an appointment today to officially turn Daniel over to the Barkdolls. Ruby, the lawyer, was in the hospital all morning for bronchitis. So she was not able to make a new appointment. I think we just need her to do the passport and authentication so please pray that she can get those two things done or we can not go to the embassy on Wednesday. I will be flying out Wednesday at a 6 a.m. to go to the embassy with the Barkdoll's to hopefully get the U.S. side started. If everything is complete I will then fly back home Wednesday afternoon. Amy ----------------------------------------------------------------- January 9, 2007 Dear friends and family, When the Barkdolls went to get all the documents from the lawyer just a little bit ago, they found out that even though the lawyer had reassured us time and again that she had done specific steps there are 2 she has not done. One we can fix in the next couple of days. She only put in the announcement about his abandonment in one newspaper and it needs to be done in two newspapers. She has the one copy but it has not be translated. The other thing is that an orphan investigation needs to be done by the embassy. Ruby was suppose to give them all the correct information but she told the Barkdolls tonight that she was not responsible for anything related to the embassy. As of right now this means that under Honduran law Daniel belongs to the Barkdolls but they can not take him out of the country. We don't even know if the embassy will allow him to be adopted. Please pray for wisdom and that the embassy will work with us on thi! s situation and for anything else the Lord feels we need to work with this situation. Amy |
