If
you have read our prayer request for this month, you will notice the
first one mentioned is adoption. We have officially started the adoption
process. We are still gathering documents but the lawyer has started the
process here in Honduras for us. She has told us that the process should
take
three months so by six months we should have a baby. We ask for your
prayers
of protection and wisdom that God would allow us to have the exact child
He
wills for us.
We were happy to have three people from the states come work with us for a
week. Paul Redwine and Allan Cobbs worked with Toby showing videos in
various
places in the rural areas a couple of hours above our house. They had a
good
turn out for the evangelistic movies. They also spent time with the men in
different villages talking about their faith and starting churches.
Several
villages have approached Toby about building churches in their area. We
are
thankful to Allan for bringing us down several Spanish CD’s. He brought
us an
adapter so that we can play the music before church starts. The people
will
really enjoy those CD’s since they are popular Spanish Christian artist.
Christina Owens worked with me in
the clinic and was able to experience the
rural clinic in La Union de Rio Frio. She wanted to experience what
medical
missions is like. She was able to learn how to take out a bullet and do
suturing. I think that was the high light of her trip. It was really nice
to
have an American to visit with. It was also fun to watch her experience
what
it is like living abroad. We enjoyed the time we had with all of them.
For the last two months that we
have been home, I have had no energy and
have been exhausted constantly. We decided this last weekend to take the
weekend off so I could just sleep and rest without any responsibilities.
We
stayed at a hotel recommended by our friends. If we are in the mountain we
do
not get any rest. There is something that always demands our attention. It
was really nice just to rest and spend time with friends. Friday night we
went to the movies with friends. I knew the location would not be a good
place for me to wear my engagement ring so I took it off at the hotel and
hid
it. From the information I read I did not think anyone would be cleaning
our
room.
Sunday morning we were ready to
check out and go to English church. I
went to look for my engagement ring and it was not there. After searching
extensively for it, I went to report it at the front desk. The head of
housekeeping and a front desk clerk brought the lady who had cleaned our
room. The first two ladies helped me search everywhere for my ring. The
cleaning lady just stood there and loudly denied taking any ring. Thankful
our closest friends in San Pedro have all their groups stay at this hotel.
I
indirectly mentioned that if my ring was not found that I would have to
inform Lifeline (which meant they could loose a tremendous amount of
money).
I guess that got their attention. The labor lawyer and administrator were
immediately brought in. They then called in the police. To make a long
story
short the cleaning lady was taken to her home to retrieve my ring under
the
threat if she did not she would immediately be taken to jail and the
police
would get the answer out of her one way or another. After three or more
hours
I had my ring back. I feel very thankful since in most situations I would
have never seen my ring again.
Emilio and Santos have done a
great job with preaching and teaching in the
mountain. Emilio preaches twice a week and teaches two classes. Santos has
started a church in the area where we live. It has services twice a week
and
then he preaches in Penitas on Sunday. One of the guys Emilio has been
working with wants to be baptized and probably will be baptized soon.
There
are also some others who are thinking things through. The other night we
had
17 men at church. Families are growing stronger. We are very grateful for
your prayers they are making a difference. Two of our couples have a legal
wedding date set (Orlando/Gloria and Henry/Silvia). Thank you so much for
praying for them and please continue because anything could happen between
now and then. The date is set for the 16th of March. The legal ceremony is
always on Fridays at the municipal building in San Pedro Sula. You have to
present all the documentation needed a month before to be legally married.
Two weeks later you come in for a wedding date. Then two weeks after that
is
the actual signing of the marriage license. We have another couple
planning
to get married this next month.
It has been encouraging to see
marriage and family become more of a priority. Juvenil is the brother of
our former minister Amable Rivera. He cut off his relationship with Christ
8 years ago. The other day he was visiting his brother in the city and for
some reason he
collapsed and was unconscious for a while. He figured God was telling him
to
get his life straight and decided to listen for once. His wife Julia is a
very dedicated Christian and very active in our church. We had asked
prayers for them since they were having marriage problems. Since
rededicating his life, their marriage has improved dramatically.
Since the majority of the car
problems have been fixed Toby is now able to start teaching/discipling. He
plans to start two discipleship groups this week with a possible third
next week. Please pray that he would know what the men's needs are and how
best to guide them.
As always we appreciate your
prayers. They are what make the difference.
Several of the things mentioned above we have been praying for since we
first
came here. we While we were home for the three months many things changed
in
the live of the people of the Merendons. We feel it is because of our
prayer
warriors.
God bless,
Toby and Amy Hill
