Newsletter -- July 7, 2000 Update

Dear friends and family,

Some of you have written to ask if we have sent general e-mails out since you have not received some for a while. The reason is that we have had groups for about a month so we have not been able to write. We are staying down in they city trying to rest but we also have a lot of work to get caught up on. Thankfully the hotel where we are staying has free internet usage. While Toby is getting a lot of errands done, I can e-mail:)

Our first group was organized by Paul Redwine-a good friend of ours. He is the youth minister at Highview Christian Church. Highview combined with Pleasant Run for their first mission trip. Toby and I decided to take them to some of the most remote areas in the mountain. To do that we had to stay in La Union de Rio Frio. From La Union we drove up to two ours away (which would have been 4 hours away from our house). The group helped with VBS's.  They worked really well together and did a great job. Yami and I taught the lessons as well as translated for the crafts. The kids really enjoyed the VBS. Two nights while we were in La Union we showed films. We showed the Jesus movie and Veggie Tales. Since the people in La Union do not get to see TV. very often it was a treat for them.

Toby really enjoyed having Paul to visit with. They were able to discuss a variety of ministry issues and come up with some possible ideas for the mountain. They talked about a lot of other things as well. Toby usually does not have a lot of opportunity to talk to men in English so it was very encouraging to him. It was really nice to get to know the sponsors from Pleasant Run. Richard and Brenda were great with the kids. It was also a lot of fun to get to know and visit with them. We really appreciated the group's encouragement and support. They had a great attitude about everything. They really tried to see what needs we had and did everything they could to support us in those needs. We appreciated them so very much.

Kingsway from Plainfield, Indiana spent two weeks with us. They also did V.B.S. The group used puppets, skits, and Bible lessons to share the love of Christ. The kids did an excellent job with the puppets. They left the puppet stage with the church so that they can use the puppets in ministry. They also did a youth retreat for the kids in Penitas Arriba and San Antonio. We had a good turn out for the retreat. It was the first time the teenagers had something only for them. In the coming year Toby hopes to develop a youth program that really relates to their needs.

The Kingsway group had a lot of interesting experiences. One night when we were coming home the teacher in our village started throwing stuff at the truck and cursing. After dropping off the kids at the house we returned to see what the problem was. She had a baby girl a month before. She had not really taken care of the baby. She did not feed or clean the baby very often. We thought maybe something had happened to the baby so we went down to see. When we went back, Satan used her to issue a threat or whatever you want to call it. She said either he, Satan, was going to win in the mountain or that we would. We were so shocked that he was so blatant. Toby felt I should be returned to the house and some other people brought to help with the situation. The rest of the group was at the house and prayed for the situation for two hours. Somehow the baby was gotten to safety and not killed. The husband and some of the men of the area we able to forcefully take her to the city.

After the statement was made we had things constantly go wrong. Just to list a few of the things. We had a constant supply of water that went dry. A man became furious that we did not give him a ride to San Pedro Sula so the next day, he tried to run over one of the vehicles with part of the group in the vehicle. The girls house was broken into the night before they left.

Satan is really scared of what the Lord is going to accomplish through us in the mountain. Thirteen villages asked Toby to come back to teach them or start a church. He is not happy that the Lord is breaking down the walls in the mountain. He has declared war. We realize that some of you are not familiar with spiritual warfare or do not feel comfortable with it. We can understand that. We would ask that you be in prayer for us even if that is the case. We would appreciate it if you could pray for the following:

1. Many people would come to know the Lord as their personal Savior and Lord.
2. The sins that hold the people in the mountain would be set loose.
3. Santos and Emilio would continually grow spiritually and in the work of the ministry.
4. Meeting that Toby has with Emilio and Santos this Friday would go well; that the Lord would give wisdom on how things should be carried out.
5. The Lord would give Toby wisdom on how, when, and where, and what to do with all the ministry opportunities and situations that come our way.
6. The Lord would protect us, the vehicle, house, possessions, and property. Pray that we would not have water, electricity, vehicle, or any other problems that would detain Toby from getting the work that the Lord has for him to do.
7. Satan would loose the battle for the mountain.

We can not tell you how much your prayers mean to us. If it were not for your prayers we could not get done half the things that we have to do. We also can not tell you how important that you pray for the things mentioned above. The more prayer support we have in these things the more the Lord can accomplish. You are just as much a part of this ministry as we are.

Thank you so much for your support and prayers.

God bless,

Toby and Amy Hill
